Stopwatch

00:00.00

SPACE = Start/Stop | L = Lap | R = Reset

About this tool

This stopwatch counts up with centisecond (hundredth-of-a-second) precision and records laps as you go. It runs entirely in your browser — no account, no server, nothing saved anywhere. Timing uses the browser's high-resolution clock, so elapsed time stays accurate even if you switch tabs; the display simply catches up when you return.

Hit Start to begin, Lap to record a split without stopping, and Reset to clear everything. Each lap row shows the lap time (since the previous lap) and the total elapsed time. Keyboard shortcuts: space bar starts and stops, L records a lap, R resets.

When to use it

Reading lap times vs. total times

Say you press L at 1:30.00, 3:05.50, and 4:38.20. The lap column shows +1:30.00, +1:35.50, and +1:32.70, while the right column shows the running total at each press. The newest lap sits at the top, and if your laps are drifting slower you'll see it immediately, no subtraction needed.

Frequently asked questions

Does the stopwatch keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. Elapsed time is calculated from the browser's high-resolution clock rather than counted tick by tick, so the total stays correct while the tab is in the background. The on-screen display pauses updating while hidden and jumps to the right value when you return.

How accurate is it?

The display shows hundredths of a second, and the underlying clock is the same high-resolution timer browsers use for performance measurement. For everyday timing — sports, cooking, work sessions — it's accurate well beyond what you can react to by hand.

Can I record a lap while the stopwatch is stopped?

No. Laps only register while the stopwatch is running, which prevents accidental duplicate splits. Pause with the space bar or Stop button, then resume — the lap list and total time are preserved until you press Reset.

Are my times saved anywhere?

No. Everything lives in the page's memory only. Refreshing or closing the tab clears the time and all laps, so jot down or screenshot results you want to keep before leaving the page.
